Triangle of Confusion
By Jill W.
She stood in that triangle of
love
desperately searching for a hint
for some sort of sign from above
In her hands she held her future
all contained in a small velvet box
She stared intensely at the ring
as it coldly mocked
To her one side stood a future easy and straight
to her other stood another option for a soul mate.
Her mind said to go with the one on the left, so sensible
and at ease,
but her heart turned to the right -
to the one who really held her heart and it's keys.
She pulled her shawl around her tightly
as a surprising snow began to fall lightly.
She looked up at everyone
but no one seemed to notice the possible fun.
She gave David his ring back;
she looked into his eyes but an answer she lacked.
Sighing, she decided to deal with this later,
and turned to the children that she was to cater.
She ignored the two men that gazed at her
- neither sure if they should be confused
or burst out in laughter.
Finally Neil couldn't hold his childishness in
and joined Christy and her school children.
David just watched as he stood nearby.
Christy would never answer him straight,
and now he had to wonder why.
The doctor was in his way, that he already knew
but Christy would never let him go -
she had befriended Neil too.
As he watched the progressing snow ball fight
he began to wonder if he was in fact right.
For even though the doctor was already married,
Christy's heart he had no choice but to carry.
David realized that he could not give her what she deserved,
for somewhere along the line,
both their intentions had curved.
For in the city he wanted to live,
but she wanted to stay,
where her life to these people she could give.
So as the snowflakes continued to fall,
he sadly walked away;
For now he knew just where
Christy Huddleston's heart did lay.
